Ekosysteemipalveluiden arvottamismenetelmien mahdollisuudet ja rajat: integroidun arvottamiskehikon kehittäminen

The project analyzes the potential of alternative valuation approaches in providing robust and policy-relevant information about the value of ecosystem services. We: a)evaluate the ability of economic and non-economic valuation methods to account for ecosystem services in different policy contexts and scales (local, regional, national) with an aim to develop integrated frameworks, which can take into account multiple value dimensions of ecosystem services b)analyse the potential and problems of deliberative valuation both in monetary and non-monetary valuation context and examine the factors that limit, or facilitate, value articulation through group deliberation c)analyse the institutional conditions for operational application of the different value attribution methods and the outcomes of these analyses. How is ecosystem service values considered in real-world decision-making and how can valuation methods better relate to it? New empirical research is carried out in the case of peatland conservation. The methods to be used include contingent valuation (CV), choice experiment (CE), multi-criteria evaluation (MCA) as well as deliberative monetary and non-monetary valuation. The project develops a hybrid valuation framework, which can take into account multiple value dimensions of ecosystem services, and hence provides a richer understanding of the ways that ecosystems and their changes matter to people.
