Up-to-date and reliable knowledge on game species abundance and distribution are needed for sustainable management and use of natural resources. However, monitoring and censusing of wild animals, often in remote and rough locations, is expensive and labor-intensive to carry out and new innovative methods are needed for more cost-effective, but dependable, wildlife monitoring. In this pilot project we test and evaluate different types of unmanned aerial systems (drones) as an alternative and innovative tool for game censuses.
