Foreign trade in fish, 11/2021 (preliminary)

  • In November 2021, fish and fish products were imported to Finland worth approximately EUR 48 million; just under 9 million kilos. Of this, 3.4 million kilos were still fresh whole salmon exported to other parts of Europe via Finland. In November, 1.7 million kilos of salmon imported to Finland remained in the country.
  • The value of imports increased by 19 percent from the corresponding period of the previous year, while the volume of imports decreased by 8 percent. Norway accounted for 68 percent of the value of imports.
  • 96 percent of the fish imported in November was food fish. 4 percent was feed fish for animal consumption (0.4 million kg). The main imports were fresh whole salmon, various fish products and preserves, and fresh whole rainbow trout.
  • In November, a total of 8.7 million kilos of fish and fish products were exported from Finland. The value of exports was EUR 24 million. 96 percent of the fish exported was food fish. 319,000 kilos of fish were exported for feed. Most were exported fresh whole salmon and frozen herring.
  • The value of exports increased by 28 percent in November from the corresponding period of the previous year, with the volume of exports increasing by 13 percent.
