Luke Doctoral and Postdoctoral Programme

Tags:

Luke Doctoral and Postdoctoral Programme supports the research and supervision of doctoral and postdoctoral researchers.

The programme supports Luke's doctoral researchers in their doctoral research and completion of the doctoral degree, as well as postdoctoral researchers in their postdoctoral professional development. Currently over 80 doctoral researchers are working on their doctoral dissertation at Luke. Of Luke's approximately 40 postdoctoral researchers, 14 will participate in The Postdoctoral Programme for Research Institutes in Finland during 2025–2028, which is a joint initiative between research institutes.

In Luke Doctoral and Postdoctoral Programme, we emphasise high quality and impact, as well as wide expertise and internationality, to provide doctoral and postdoctoral researchers with diverse career opportunities. We have established uniform practices to ensure that doctoral research or the postdoc period can be carried out in a structured and well-managed manner.

Luke Doctoral and Postdoctoral Programme develops and coordinates doctoral training and the professional development of postdoctoral researchers at Luke. Through this programme, we aim to train the next generation of researchers, elevate our expertise and competence, and ensure high-quality research in our key areas now and in the future.

Luke's doctoral training is carried out in cooperation with universities and other key stakeholders.

Doctoral and postdoctoral researchers at Luke

We provide doctoral and postdoctoral researchers with support and guidance for conducting their research, as well as diverse opportunities for networking both nationally and internationally

The prerequisite for the status of a doctoral researcher at Luke is the right to pursue a doctoral degree at a university. In addition, the doctoral researchers have at least one supervisor with a doctoral degree who works at Luke, and they follow the degree requirements of the university and the doctoral training policies of the university and Luke. The goal is that the doctoral researchers can complete the doctoral degree in four years when working full-time.

At Luke, a postdoctoral researcher can be a person who has typically completed their doctoral degree about five years ago (excl. periods of family leave, military or civil service, long-term illness or work e.g. in central government or in a company that is particularly significant for the postdoc research in question). The length of the postdoctoral period is typically 1-3 years.

At Luke, doctoral researchers carry out their doctoral work in accordance with their research plan and in cooperation with their supervisors and complete the formal training according to the policy of the degree granting university.

Doctoral and postdoctoral researchers have typically a fixed-term employment at Luke, and doctoral researchers can also sign a visitor contract with Luke.

We announce open doctoral and postdoctoral researcher positions on the valtiolle.fi website.
