Foreign trade in fish, 12/2021 (preliminary)

  • In December 2021, fish and fish products were imported to Finland worth approximately EUR 52 million; just over 9 million kilos. Of this, 2.9 million kilos were still fresh whole salmon exported to other parts of Europe via Finland. In December, less than 2 million kilos of salmon were imported to Finland.
  • The value of imports increased by 36 percent from the corresponding period of the previous year, while the volume of imports increased by 11 percent.
  • 95% of the fish imported in December was food fish. 5 percent was feed fish for animal consumption (0.45 million kg).
  • 9.1 million kilos of fish and fish products were exported from Finland in December. The value of exports was EUR 23 million. 85% of the fish exported was food fish. 1.4 million kilos of fish were exported for feed.
  • The value of exports increased by 46 percent in December compared with the corresponding period of the previous year, with the volume of exports increasing by 30 percent.
