Foreign trade in fish, 10/2021 (preliminary)

  • In October 2021, fish and fish products were imported to Finland worth approximately EUR 45 million; 9 million euros. Of this, 3.5 million kilos were still fresh whole salmon exported to other parts of Europe via Finland. In oktober, 1.5 million kilos of salmon imported to Finland remained in the country.
  • The value of imports increased by 14 per cent from the corresponding period of the previous year, while the volume of imports decreased by 9 percent. Norway accounted for 69% of the value of imports.
  • 93% of the imported fish was food fish. 7 percent was feed fish for animal consumption (0.6 million kg). The most important import items in October were fresh whole salmon (5 million kg), various fish products and preserves (1.3 million kg) and fresh whole rainbow trout (0.5 million kg).
  • A total of 7.9 million kilos of fish and fish products were exported from Finland in October. The value of exports was EUR 22 million. 94% of the fish exported was food fish. 478,000 kilos of fish were exported for feed. The largest exports were fresh whole salmon (3.5 million kg), frozen herring (1.7 million kg) and fresh sprat (1.2 million kg).
  • The value of exports increased by 32 percent year-on-year in October, while the volume of exports fell by 7 percent.
