Foreign trade in agri-food products, 5/2021 (preliminary)

  • In May 2021, agricultural products and foodstuffs were exported for less than EUR 0.14 billion and imported for just over EUR 0.4 billion. Compared to May of the previous year, the value of imports fell by just over 3 %. At the same time, the value of exports rose by 2%.
  • The volume of grain exports in May 2021 was approximately 50 million kilos. The volume of exports in the crop year 2020/2021 (July-May) was less than a third lower than in the corresponding period 2019/2020. The volume of grain imports decreased by about 9% during the same period. The volume of grain imports in May was about 2.4 million kilograms.
  • The value of exports of dairy and dairy products rose by 9 percent from May of the previous year, while the volume of exports rose by about 6 % at the same time. The value of imports of milk and dairy products increased by 4%, while the volume of imports remained unchanged.
  • The value of meat exports increased by 4 % compared to the previous May, while the volume of exports decreased by 3% over the same period. The value of meat imports rose by 6 percent, while the volume of imported meat rose by 8 %.
  • The value of fruit and berry exports was more than double that of the previous May, while the value of imports remained the same. The value of vegetable exports rose by 38 percent, while the value of their imports fell by 9 per cent.
  • The value of exports of alcoholic beverages increased by 15% from May of the previous year; while the value of imports rose by 24%.
