Foreign trade in roundwood and forest industry products, 9/2020 (preliminary)

  • In January-September wood imports totalled 9.46 million cubic metres and increased by nine per cent compared to same period previous year. In September, 2020 wood imports totalled 1.06 million cubic metres.
  • Of imported wood in January-September 54 per cent was pulpwood, 35 per cent chips and four per cent logs. Compared to same period previous year increased the imports of chips by a fair fifth and logs by 19 per cent. The imports of pulpwood decreased by one per cent.
  • Of imported wood in January-September 77 per cent originated from Russia. Of arrived wood 90 per cent was pulpwood and chips.
  • In September the exports value of forest industry products totalled EUR 0.88 billion. In January-September the real exports value of forest industry products totalled EUR 7.75 billion and decreased by 16 per cent compared to same period previous year (deflated using wholesale price index).
  • In the same period the exports value of wood-products industries decreased in real terms by 13 per cent to EUR 1.79 billion. The exports value of sawn goods decreased by 15 per cent and volume by 14 per cent. The exports value of plywood decreased by 18 per cent and volume by 19 per cent.
  • The exports value of pulp and paper industries totalled in real terms EUR 5.96 billion in January-September and decreased by 17 per cent from previous year. Of the most important exports goods most decreased the exports value of magazine paper, by a third and exports volume by 31 per cent. The exports value of fine paper decreased by 29 per cent and volume decreased by 27 per cent, whereas the exports value of paperboard increased by one per cent and volume decreased by one per cent. The exports value of bleached sulphate pulp decreased by a fourth but the exports volume only by a tenth. This year the exports price of bleached sulphate pulp was in real terms lowest in September, 401 EUR/t.
