Foreign trade in roundwood and forest industry products, 6/2021 (preliminary)

  • In June 2021, 1.10 million cubic meters of wood was imported to Finland. In the first half year wood imports totalled 6.52 million cubic meters and increased from same period previous year by 5%. Of imported wood 55% was pulpwood, 33% chips and 4% logs. Compared to the same period previous year the imports of pulpwood increased by 12% and chips decreased by 4%. The imports of logs decreased by 15%.
  • Of imported wood in January-June 72% originated from Russia, 12% from Estonia and 9% from Latvia.
  • In the first half year the exports value of forest industry products totalled in real terms EUR 6.27 billion and increased from same period previous year by 12% (deflated using wholesale price index). The exports value of forest industry products totalled EUR 1.13 billion in June 2021.
  • The exports value of wood-products industries was EUR 1.74 billion in January-June and increased by 37% in real terms compared to the same period previous year. The exports value of sawn goods increased by 49% and volume 20%. For plywood the exports value increased by 26% and volume by 32%.
  • In the same period, the real exports value of pulp and paper industries was EUR 4.54 billion and increased by 5% compared to the same period previous year. In the same time the exports value of bleached sulphate pulp increased by 19% and volume by 6%. The exports value of magazine paper increased by 3% and volume by 19%. For fine paper on the exports value decreased by 19% and volume decreased 13%. The exports value of paperboard increased by 6% and volume 14%.
  • The share of paperboard of the exports value of forest industries was 26% in January-June 2021. The share of paper was 23%, pulp 20% and sawn goods 18%.
