Foreign trade in roundwood and forest industry products, 5/2021 (preliminary)

  • In January-May the exports value of forest industry products totalled in real terms EUR 5.09 billion and increased from same period previous year by 10% (deflated using wholesale price index). The exports value of forest industry products totalled EUR 1.14 billion in May 2021.
  • The exports value of wood-products industries was EUR 1.38 billion in January-May and increased by 35% in real terms compared to the same period previous year. The exports value of sawn goods increased by 46% and volume 21%. For plywood the exports value increased by 29% and volume by 35%.
  • In the same period, the real exports value of pulp and paper industries was EUR 3.71 billion and increased by 3% compared to the same period previous year. In the same time the exports value of bleached sulphate pulp increased by 17% and volume by 8%. The exports value of magazine paper decreased by 3% and but volume increased by 12%. For fine paper on the exports value decreased by 24% and volume decreased 18%. The exports value of paperboard increased by 8% and volume 16%.
  • The share of paperboard of the exports value of forest industries was 26% in January-May 2021. The share of paper was 23%, pulp 20% and sawn goods 18%.
  • In May 2021, 1.13 million cubic meters of wood was imported to Finland. In January-May wood imports totalled 5.41 million cubic meters and increased from same period previous year by 7%. Of imported wood 53% was pulpwood, 34% chips and 4% logs. Compared to the same period previous year the imports of pulpwood increased by 12% and chips decreased by 1%. The imports of logs decreased by 8%.
