Foreign trade in roundwood and forest industry products, 3/2020 (preliminary)

  • In the first quarter wood imports totalled 2.89 million cubic metres. Wood imports increased by 10 per cent compared to same period previous year. In March, 2020 wood imports totalled 1.07 million cubic metres.
  • Of imported wood in January-March 48 per cent was pulpwood, 40 per cent chips and four per cent logs. Compared to the beginning of previous year, imports of pulpwood decreased by nine per cent. Imports of chips increased by third and logs by 12 per cent.
  • In March 2020, the exports value of forest industry products totalled EUR 0.95 billion. In the first quarter exports value totalled EUR 2.45 billion. Compared to same period previous year the exports value decreased in real terms by 23 per cent (deflated using wholesale price index).
  • In January-March the exports value of wood-products industries decreased by a fourth to EUR 0.53 billion. The exports value of sawn goods decreased by 30 per cent and plywood by 37 per cent.
  • The exports value of pulp and paper industries decreased in real terms by 22 per cent in the first quarter. Within the most important exports products both the volumes and values decreased. Of bleached sulphate pulp the exports volume decreased by 17 per cent and exports value by 38 per cent. Compared to the beginning of previous year the exports volume of magazine paper decreased by almost a fourth and fine paper 22 per cent. In both product groups the exports value decreased by 26 per cent from previous year.
