The exports value of forest industry products totalled EUR 0.89 billion in February 2021. In January-February the exports value totalled in real terms EUR 1.73 billion and increased from same period previous year by a tenth (deflated using wholesale price index). Industrial actions in 2020 decreased production and exports of forest industries in the beginning of previous year.
In the same time the exports value of wood-products industries increased by 35% in real terms. The exports value of sawn goods increased by 41% and volume 22%. For plywood both the exports value and volume increased by 69%.
In January-February 2021, the exports value of pulp and paper industries increased by 3% in real terms compared to the same period previous year. In the same time the exports value of bleached sulphate pulp increased by 10% and volume 13%. The exports value of magazine paper increased by 4% and volume 17%. For fine paper on the other hand the exports value decreased by 17% and volume decreased 13%. The exports value of paperboard increased by 8% and volume 12%.
The most in important exports product in January-February 2021 was sawn goods with 17% share of the exports value of forest industry products. Almost the same share had other coated paperboard. Other coated paperboard includes for example multi-ply paperboard coated with kaolin and paperboard coated with plastics. Third was bleached sulphate pulp with 15% share.
In February 2021 one million cubic meters of wood was imported to Finland. In January-February wood imports totalled 2 million cubic meters and increased from same period previous year by a tenth. Of imported wood 51% was pulpwood and 36% chips. The imports of pulpwood increased by 15% and chips decreased by 2% compared to the beginning of previous year.
