Foreign trade in roundwood and forest industry products, 10/2022 (preliminary), database release

In October 2022, the exports value of forest industry products totalled EUR 1.29 billion. Of the exports value the share of paper was 27% and paperboard 23%. The share of pulp was 24%. Sawn goods covered 13% and plywood 5%.

• In January-October the exports value of forest industry products totalled in real terms EUR 12.42 billion and decreased from previous year by 7% (deflated using wholesale price index). Paperboard covered 28% and paper a fifth of the exports value. Sawn goods and pulp covered both 19%.
• At the same time the exports value of wood-products industries was EUR 3.64 billion and decreased by 6% compared to previous year. The exports value of sawn goods decreased by 11% and volume by 3%. For plywood the exports value increased by 4% and volume decreased by 4%.
• The real exports value of pulp and paper industries was EUR 8.78 billion and decreased by 8% compared to previous year. At the same time the exports value of bleached sulphate pulp decreased by 5% and volume decreased by 9%. The exports value of magazine paper decreased by 11% and volume by 28%. For fine paper the exports value decreased by 31% and volume decreased 46%. The exports value of paperboard increased by 3% and volume 1%.
• In October 2022 wood imports totalled 0.47 million cubic meters and decreased by 55% compared to the average monthly import volume previous year. Of imported wood a third originated from Latvia, 24% from Sweden and 22% from Estonia. 
• In January-October, wood imports totalled 4.41 million cubic meters and decreased by 58% from same period previous year. Of imported wood 54% was pulpwood, 30% chips and 2% logs. Compared to the same period previous year, the imports of pulpwood decreased by 60%. The imports of chips decreased by 63% and logs 72%. 
• Of imported wood in January-October 34% originated from Russia, 23% from Estonia and 20% from Latvia.
