Foreign trade in roundwood and forest industry products, 10/2021 (preliminary)

  • In January-October wood imports totalled 10.58 million cubic meters and increased from same period previous year by 0.5%. Of imported wood 56% was pulpwood, a third chips and 3% logs. Compared to the same period previous year the imports of pulpwood increased by 5%. The imports of chips decreased by 4% and logs 23%. In October 2021, 1.06 million cubic meters of wood was imported to Finland.
  • In January-October the exports value of forest industry products totalled in real terms EUR 11.23 billion and increased from same period previous year by 15% (deflated using wholesale price index). The exports value of forest industry products totalled EUR 1.14 billion in October 2021.
  • The share of paperboard of the exports value of forest industries was a quarter in January-October 2021. The share of paper was 23%, pulp a fifth and sawn goods 19%.
  • The exports value of wood-products industries was EUR 3.25 billion in January-October and increased by 42% in real terms compared to the same period previous year. The exports value of sawn goods increased by 55% and volume 9%. For plywood the exports value increased by 16% and volume by 17%.
  • In the same period, the real exports value of pulp and paper industries was EUR 7.99 billion and increased by 7% compared to the same period previous year. At the same time the exports value of bleached sulphate pulp increased by 22% but volume stayed the same. The exports value of magazine paper increased by 4% and volume by 16%. For fine paper on the exports value decreased by 14% and volume decreased 11%. The exports value of paperboard increased by 8% and volume 14%.
