Foreign trade in roundwood and forest industry products, 11/2021 (preliminary)

  • In January-November the exports value of forest industry products totalled in real terms EUR 12.61 billion and increased from same period previous year by 16% (deflated using wholesale price index). Compared to the average exports value of the preceding ten-year period, the exports value of forest industry products increased by 1%.  The exports value of forest industry products totalled EUR 1.22 billion in November 2021.
  • The share of paperboard of the exports value of forest industries was a quarter in January-November 2021. The share of paper was 23%, sawn goods a fifth and pulp 19%.
  • The exports value of wood-products industries was EUR 3.71 billion in January-November and increased by 42% in real terms compared to the same period previous year. The exports value of sawn goods increased by 53% and volume 7%. For plywood the exports value and volume increased both by 16%.
  • In the same period, the real exports value of pulp and paper industries was EUR 8.90 billion and increased by 8% compared to the same period previous year. At the same time the exports value of bleached sulphate pulp increased by a fifth, but volume decreased by 3%. The exports value of magazine paper increased by 5% and volume by 16%. For fine paper on the exports value decreased by 13% and volume decreased 11%. The exports value of paperboard increased by 9% and volume 14%.
  • In January-November wood imports totalled 11.57 million cubic meters and didn’t change from the same period previous year. Of imported wood 55% was pulpwood, 34% chips and 3% logs. Compared to the same period previous year the imports of pulpwood increased by 3%. The imports of chips decreased by 1% and logs 22%. In November 2021, 0.99 million cubic meters of wood was imported to Finland.
  • Of imported wood in January-November 74% originated from Russia, 12% from Estonia and 9% from Latvia.
