Foreign trade in fish 2015

  • In 2015, the amount of fish and fish products exported from Finland was 69 million kilos.­ The volume of exported fish increased by 3 million kilos from the year before, but the value of exports decreased by EUR 4 million to EUR 38 million.
  • The amount of fish exported for human consumption was nearly 48 million kilos and that of products to be used for other purposes almost 22 million kilos.
  • The most important export countries for fish and fish products were Estonia (EUR 18 million), Denmark (EUR 11 million), Russia (nearly EUR 2 million) and Sweden (nearly EUR 2 million). Only the value of fish and fish products exported to Denmark increased from the year before.
  • The most important export products included fresh salmon and rainbow trout, fresh and frozen Baltic herring and sprat, salted or smoked salmon, fish roe and roe products and animal feed.­
  • In 2015, about 112 million kilos of fish and fish products were imported to Finland. Compared to the year before, the import volume decreased by 4 million kilos and the total value by EUR 19 million to EUR 374 million.­
  • The amount of fish imported for human consumption was 72 million kilos, representing a decrease of 5 million kilos from the year before. The total value of imports fell by EUR 21 million.
  • The most important import countries for fish and fish products included ­Norway (EUR 168 million), Sweden (EUR 62 million), Denmark (EUR 36 million) and Estonia (EUR 19 million).
  • Half of the total import volume (57 million kilos) originated in Norway. The main items imported for human consumption from Norway were fresh sea salmon (29 million kilos), shrimp and prawn preserves and preparations, and herring preserves and preparations.
  • The volume of fish and fish products imported from Sweden totalled 16 million kilos and from Denmark 13 million kilos.­
