Foreign trade in agri-food products, 1/2021 (preliminary)
• In January 2021, agricultural products and foodstuffs were exported at a value of just over EUR 0.12 billion and imported at just under EUR 0.36 billion. Compared to January of the previous year, the value of exports decreased by 13 percent and the value of imports by 17 per cent.
• The volume of grain exports in January 2021 was approximately 35 million kilos. The volume of exports in the crop year 2020/2021 (July-January) was one-fifth lower than in the corresponding period 2019/2020. The volume of grain imports also decreased by about one-fifth during the same period. The volume of grain imports in January was about 2.1 million kilos.
• The value of exports of dairy and dairy products decreased by 10% from January of the previous year, while the volume of exports remained almost unchanged. The value of imports of milk and dairy products fell by 16 percent, while the volume of imports fell by 12 percent.
• The value of meat exports fell by 7% from the previous January, while the volume of exports fell by 5%. The value of meat imports fell by almost 30 percent from the previous year, while the volume of imported meat fell by about a fifth.
• The value of fruit and berry exports fell by about 10% compared to the previous January, while the value of their imports fell by 8% over the same period. The value of vegetable exports fell by more than 40 percent and the value of imports by 16 per cent.
• The value of exports of alcoholic beverages decreased by 30% from January of the previous year, and the value of their imports halved.
• Imports from the United Kingdom decreased by more than EUR 9 million from January of the previous year. The value of imports collapsed almost completely in all product groups with one exception; the value of vegetable imports almost almost quintupled. The value of exports fell by just over EUR 2 million from January of the previous year, which meant a fall of almost 80% in exports to the United Kingdom.
