The exports value of Finnish forest industry products totalled EUR 11.4 billion in 2016. The value of all goods export was EUR 51.9 billion and the share of forest industry products was 22 per cent.
Of all forest industry products, 66 per cent of exports income was from Europe. The role of Europe in the exports of forest industry products has decreased, while that of Asia has increased over the past five years. In 2016 the share of Asia was 19 per cent. The most important trading partners in export were Germany, United Kingdom and China.
Finland’s wood import totalled 9.8 million solid cubic metres in 2016. The most important import countries were Russia, Estonia and Latvia. From imported wood 85 per cent was originated from Russia.
Compared to last year Finland’s wood import increased two per cent. There were differences between the most important imported articles. The import of birch pulp wood decreased 3.3 per cent, but chips import increased slightly 0.9 per cent. The import of spruce pulp wood increased 19.1 per cent compared to last year.
In 2016 forest sector products were transported 19.6 million tons from Finland. It covered 44 per cent of all export transportations. The share of sea transport in forest sector products export transportation was 92 per cent.
