In 2015, Finland’s wood import totalled 9.61 million cubic metres. The amount decreased 6 per cent from the previous year. Among the different wood assortments imported in 2015, the highest proportion was birch pulpwood and chips, reaching 4.91 million cubic metres and 2.51 million cubic metres respectively. The proportion of pulpwood and chips was 88 per cent, and the proportion of logs 6 per cent.
Most of the imported wood originated from Russia (83%). 9 per cent was from Estonia and 5 per cent from Latvia. The proportion of Russian wood has increased.
In 2015, the exports value of Finnish forest industry products was €11.5 billion. In real terms this was 6 per cent more than in 2014. At the same time the real exports value of all goods decreased by 1 per cent (deflated using wholesale price index, 1949=100).
As in the previous year, Germany accounted for 16 per cent of the exports of Finnish forest industry products. The proportion of the United Kingdom was 9 per cent. The share of United States as well as China was 6 per cent .
