Foreign trade in roundwood and forest industry products, 8/2021 (preliminary)

  • In January-August wood imports totalled 8.56 million cubic meters and increased from same period previous year by 2%. Of imported wood 57% was pulpwood, 33% chips and 3% logs. Compared to the same period previous year the imports of pulpwood increased by 8% and chips decreased by 3%. In August 2021, 0.98 million cubic meters of wood was imported to Finland.
  • In January-August the exports value of forest industry products totalled in real terms EUR 8.70 billion and increased from same period previous year by 15% (deflated using wholesale price index). The exports value of forest industry products totalled EUR 1.10 billion in August 2021.
  • The exports value of wood-products industries was EUR 2.42 billion in January-August and increased by 41% in real terms compared to the same period previous year. The exports value of sawn goods increased by 56% and volume 16%. The exports price of sawn goods increased to EUR 385 per cubic meter in August 2021. For plywood the exports value increased by 19% and volume by 24%.
  • In the same period, the real exports value of pulp and paper industries was EUR 6.28 billion and increased by 7% compared to the same period previous year. At the same time the exports value of bleached sulphate pulp increased by 24% and volume by 5%. The exports value of magazine paper increased by 5% and volume by a fifth. For fine paper on the exports value decreased by 15% and volume decreased 10%. The exports value of paperboard increased by 7% and volume 14%.
