Foreign trade in roundwood and forest industry products, 12/2022 (preliminary)

In December 2022, the exports value of forest industry products totalled EUR 1.16 billion. Of the exports value the share of paper was 26% and paperboard 24%. The share of pulp was a quarter. Sawn goods covered 13% and plywood 4%.

  • In 2022 the exports value of forest industry products totalled in real terms EUR 14.95 billion and decreased from previous year by 8% (deflated using wholesale price index). Paperboard covered 28%. Paper and pulp covered both a fifth of the exports value. Sawn goods covered 18% and plywood 5%.
  • At the same time the exports value of wood-products industries was EUR 4.21 billion and decreased by 12% compared to previous year. The exports value of sawn goods decreased by 16% and volume by 2%. For plywood the exports value increased by 3% and volume decreased by 6%.
  • The real exports value of pulp and paper industries was EUR 10.74 billion and decreased by 6% compared to previous year. At the same time the exports value of bleached sulphate pulp decreased by 1% and volume decreased by 7%. The exports value of magazine paper decreased by 7% and volume by 26%. For fine paper the exports value decreased by 24% and volume decreased 41%. The exports value of paperboard increased by 1% and volume decreased by 1%.
  • In December 2022 wood imports totalled 0.47 million cubic meters and decreased by 55% compared to the average monthly import volume previous year. Of imported wood 36% originated from Sweden, 32% from Estonia and 22% from Latvia.
  • In 2022, wood imports totalled 5.52 million cubic meters and decreased by 56% from previous year. Of imported wood 56% was pulpwood, 29% chips and 2% logs. Compared to the same period previous year, the imports of pulpwood decreased by 55%. The imports of chips decreased by 63% and logs 73%. 
  • Of imported wood in 2022, 27% originated from Russia, 23% from Estonia and 21% from Latvia.
