In January 2022, wood imports totalled 0.82 million cubic meters and decreased by 19% from January previous year. Of imported wood 50% was pulpwood, 42% chips and 2% logs. Compared to the same period previous year the imports of pulpwood decreased by 20%. The imports of chips decreased by 8% and logs 36%.
Of imported wood 75% originated from Russia, 10% from Estonia and 10% from Latvia. Imports of softwood from Russia stopped due to imports restrictions. A fair half of the imported wood was hardwood and 42% chips. Rest of the wood originated from Russia was wood residues.
The exports value of forest industry products totalled in real terms EUR 1.01 billion and increased from previous year by 5% (deflated using wholesale price index).
At the same time the exports value of wood-products industries was EUR 0.31 billion and increased by 25% in real terms compared to previous year. The exports value of sawn goods increased by 17% but volume decreased by 11%. For plywood the exports value increased by 25% and volume by 18%.
The real exports value of pulp and paper industries was EUR 0.70 billion and decreased by 2% compared to previous year. At the same time the exports value of bleached sulphate pulp increased by 7%, but volume decreased by 11%. The exports value of magazine paper decreased by 26% and volume by 34%. For fine paper on the exports value decreased by 50% and volume decreased 59%. The exports value of paperboard increased by 26% and volume 20%.
