Foreign trade in fish, 8/2023 (preliminary)

In August 2023, the value of fish and fish products imported into Finland was around EUR 49.7 million, or about eight million kilos. Of these imports, about 4.4 million kilos of fresh whole salmon were imported, of which 70% transited on to Europe, leaving 1.3 million kilos in the country.

Fish and fish products were exported for 25.4 million euros, amounting to 5.7 million kilos. Fresh whole salmon in transit accounted for 3.1 million kilos of exports.

• The value of imports fell by 25%. The volume of imports fell by 22% compared to August of the previous year. Of the fish imported, 99% was food fish.
• The value of exports fell by 17% compared to the previous August. The volume of exports fell by 26%. Of the fish exported, 81% was food fish.
