Foreign trade in fish, 9/2023 (preliminary)

In September 2023, the value of fish and fish products imported into Finland was around EUR 49.4 million, or about eight million kilos. Of these imports, about 4.5 million kilos of fresh whole salmon were imported, of which 69% transited on to Europe, leaving 1.4 million kilos in the country.

Fish and fish products were exported for 23.5 million euros, amounting to nine million kilos. Fresh whole salmon in transit accounted for 3.1 million kilos of exports.

• The value of imports fell by 23% compared to September of the previous year. The volume of imports fell by 22%. Of the fish imported, 92% was food fish.
• The value of exports fell by 28% compared to the previous September. The volume of exports fell by 7%. Of the fish exported, 96% was food fish.
