In August 2021, fish and fish products were imported to Finland worth approximately EUR 42 million; 8.4 million pounds. Of this, two million kilos were still fresh whole salmon exported to other parts of Europe via Finland. In August, 2.4 million kilos of salmon imported to Finland remained in the country.
The value of imports increased by 26 percent from the corresponding period of the previous year, while the volume of imports increased by 12 percent. Norway accounted for 64 percent of the value of imports.
92% of the fish imported in August was food fish. Eight percent were feed fish for animal consumption (671,000 kg). The main import items were fresh whole salmon (4.4 million kg), fresh whole rainbow trout (0.7 million kg) and canned tuna (0.6 million kg).
In August, 4.5 million kilos of fish and fish products were exported from Finland. In total, the value of exports was EUR 12.3 million. 88% of the exported fish were food fish. 540,000 kilos of fish were exported for feed. The largest exports were fresh whole salmon (2.0 million kg), frozen whole herring and sprat (1.0 million kg) and fresh whole herring and sprat (0.7 million kg).
The value of exports increased by 46 percent in August compared with the corresponding period of the previous year, while the volume of exports increased by 47 percent.
