Foreign trade in fish, 5/2023 (preliminary)

In May 2023, the value of fish and fish products imported into Finland was around EUR 47.7 million, or about 6.6 million kilos. Of these imports, 2.6 million kilos of fresh whole salmon, 70% of which transited on to Europe, leaving around 0.8 million kilos in the country.

Fish and fish products were exported for 21.6 million euros, amounting to 7.5 million kilos. Fresh whole salmon in transit accounted for 1.8 million kilos of exports.

  • The value of imports fell by 24%. The volume of imports also fell by 30% compared to May last year. Of the fish imported, 93% was food fish.
  • The value of exports fell by 27% compared to the previous May. The volume of exports fell by 33%. Of the fish exported, 81% was food fish.
