Foreign trade in fish, 4/2023 (preliminary)

In April 2023, the value of fish and fish products imported into Finland was around EUR 40 million, or about 5.4 million kilos. Of these imports, 2 million kilos of fresh whole salmon, 55% of which transited on to Europe, leaving around 0.9 million kilos in the country.

Fish and fish products were exported for 16.1 million euros, amounting to 6 million kilos. Fresh whole salmon in transit accounted for 1.1 million kilos of exports.

  • The value of imports fell by 27%. The volume of imports also fell by 21% compared to April last year. Of the fish imported, 93% was food fish.
  • The value of exports fell by 29% compared to the previous April. The volume of exports fell by 9%. Of the fish exported, 84% was food fish.
