Industrial roundwood removals and labour force 12/2020

  • In December, 5.4 million m³ of roundwood was harvested for use by the forest industries in Finland. This removal volume was up 21% from the previous year and 16% from the ten-year December average.
  • Sawlogs accounted for 2.6 million m³ and pulpwood for 2.7 million m³ of the industrial roundwood removal.
  • Industrial roundwood removals from forests in non-industrial private ownership were 4.2 million m³.
  • Forest industry companies and the state harvested 1.2 million m³ of roundwood from their forests.
  • In December, 268,000 cubic metres of wood was harvested for energy production.
  • Preliminary industrial roundwood removals for January–December 2020 are 56.4 million m³. This amount consists of 24.3 million m³ of sawlogs and 32.1 million m³ of pulpwood.
  • In January–December, 45.6 million m³ of industrial roundwood was harvested from the forests in non-industrial private ownership. During the same period, forest industry companies and Metsähallitus harvested 10.8 million m³ of roundwood from their forests.
  • In 2020, 3.8 million m³ of wood was harvested for energy production.
