The Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke) has appointed Hannu Laitinen as its new Senior Vice President, Administrative Affairs, and member of its Management Team, following the retirement of the current Senior Vice President, Administrative Affairs, Ilkka P. Laurila for a period of about six months. Laitinen will take up his duties on 5 August 2024 and will also serve as the first deputy to the Vice President. 41 applications were received for the five-year post.

Hannu Laitinen joins Luke from the position of Administrative Director of Apotti Oy. At Apotti, his responsibilities included human resources management and administration, legal, procurement and data protection, finance, risk management and corporate security, premises, responsibility and social impact. Laitinen has extensive experience in both operational and strategic management in a variety of public and private sector organisations.

"I am delighted to bring to Luke strong governance and development expertise combined with a wide range of strategic and operational management experience. The ability to network and deepen stakeholder relationships is also important for an organisation like Luke," said Johanna Buchert, Vice President of Luke.

The Senior Vice President, Administrative Affairs, is a key player in Luke's governance and enabling processes, including development governance, legal oversight, safety and risk management, compliance and community relations.

"I find Luke's diverse and wide-ranging research and expertise in the field of natural resources very relevant. I believe that my diverse experience and expertise will be well placed to support Luke in achieving its future goals in cooperation with staff and stakeholders," says Hannu Laitinen.

Hannu Laitinen's appointment will contribute to the Natural Resources Institute Finland’s goal of becoming a major European research institution in the field of natural resources. His leadership is expected to bring new perspectives and innovations to the organisation's activities.
