Operating profit in non-industrial private forest 2017 (provisional)

  • Increased felling and a minor increase in stump prices was reflected in the improved operating profit of non-industrial private forestry in 2017. According to preliminary information, the operating profit increased to EUR 120 per hectare of forest used for wood production. In all, the profit amounted to EUR 1.6 billion. 
  • Compared to the previous year, the profit was a couple of per cent better in real terms, and the improvement from the average figure of ten previous years was as much as 10 per cent.
  • The profit increased even if the investments in wood production are expected to increase by more than 7 per cent to just under EUR 18 per hectare (EUR 236 million). The amount includes the estimated value of forest-owners’ own work. The total costs of non-industrial private forestry, including the estimated administrative expenses and equivalent, was over EUR 22 per hectare (+2.4%). 
  • In Southern Finland, the operating profit was EUR 160 per hectare (+2.7%) and in Northern Finland, it was EUR 42 per hectare (+0.5%). Norther Finland includes the regions of Oulu, Kainuu and Lapland.
  • The nominal values were converted into real values using the cost-of-living index.
