Operating profit in non-industrial private forest 2016 (provisional)

Published 14.3.2017
  • According to preliminary data, the operating profit for non-industrial private forestry was EUR 1.5 billion in 2016, corresponding to a per hectare value of EUR 114 when calculated based on forestland available for wood production. Compared to the previous year, the earnings have risen less than one per cent in real terms, but almost 8% when compared to the preceding ten-year period.
  • According to preliminary data, investments in wood production in non-industrial private forests continued to decrease. The total 2016 investments were estimated as EUR 156 million; a quarter less than the average over the previous ten-year period. Part of the decrease can be explained by the change of silvicultural and forest improvement work statistics, but the investments in forest road construction and improvement fell by 70% and ditch network maintenance by 60%.
  • Because of an error found in private forest owners’ earnings calculations for 2015 (EUR 30 million), operating profit in 2015 was corrected to EUR 1.52 billion (113.7 €/ha, -2.0%).
