Operating profit in non-industrial private forestry was EUR 1.4 billion in 2014, corresponding to EUR 105, when calculated per hectare of forest land. In Western Finland, the profit was EUR 124, in Southern Finland EUR 157, and in Northern Finland EUR 40 per hectare.
Compared to the previous year, the earnings fell by 1.3 per cent in real terms. Gross stumpage earnings increased by almost one per cent, but the drop in the subsidies paid for energy wood reduced overall earnings.
Total costs for wood production amounted to EUR 21 per hectare (–1.8%). Investments in wood production were more than EUR 15 per hectare (–3.1%), and administration and other costs over EUR 5 (+2.2%) per hectare.
In 2015, the time series of administration and other costs for the years 1990–2013 was amended. Estimates of the travel expenses between the forest owner's municipality of residence and the location municipality of the forest, insurance payments, course fees, and asset transfer tax for forest property deals were left out of the calculation. In 2004–2013, these costs amounted to an average of EUR 6.0 per hectare.
