The value of exported forest industry products totalled EUR 13.17 billion in 2018. In real terms, the value of exports increased by 5% from the previous year (deflated using the wholesale price index).
The most important export articles were paper (33% of the value of exported forest industry products), paperboard (22%) and pulp (20%). The exports value of pulp increased by 28% from the previous year in real terms, and the value of exported paper and paperboard was up by 3%.
The majority of export earnings of forest industries continued to come from Europe, accounting for 62% of total exports. Asia made up 21%.
In 2018, Finland’s wood imports totalled 11.57 million cubic metres, up by one-third from 2017. The import volumes of the most significant imported assortments, i.e. pulpwood and chips, increased clearly from the previous year. The import volume of pulpwood increased by 50% and that of chips by 16%.
