Foreign trade in roundwood and forest industry products, 4/2022 (preliminary)

  • In January-April 2022 the exports value of forest industry products totalled in real terms EUR 4.36 billion and decreased from previous year by 6% (deflated using wholesale price index). The exports value of forest industries was EUR 1.11 billion in April.
  • At the same time the exports value of wood-products industries was EUR 1.52 billion and increased by 21% in real terms compared to previous year. The exports value of sawn goods increased by 18% and volume decreased by 3%. For plywood the exports value increased by 8% and volume decreased by 2%.
  • The real exports value of pulp and paper industries was EUR 2.84 billion and decreased by 16% compared to previous year. At the same time the exports value of bleached sulphate pulp decreased by 10% and volume decreased by 18%. The exports value of magazine paper decreased by 38% and volume by 49%. For fine paper the exports value decreased by 72% and volume decreased 79%. The exports value of paperboard increased by 13% and volume 8%.
  • In January-April, wood imports totalled 2.15 million cubic meters and decreased by 50% from same period previous year. Of imported wood 45% was pulpwood, 39% chips and 3% logs. Compared to the same period previous year the imports of pulpwood decreased by 56%. The imports of chips decreased by 46% and logs 65%.  In April wood imports totalled 0.28 million cubic meters.
  • Of imported wood in January-April 65% originated from Russia, 16% from Estonia and 11% from Latvia.
