Foreign trade in roundwood and forest industry products, 2/2023 (preliminary)
In February 2023, the stevedores went on strike, which also affected exports of the forest industries. The exports value of forest industry products totalled EUR 0.71 billion in February. Of this the share of pulp and paper industries was 76%.
Wood imports
- In February wood imports totalled 0.36 million cubic meters. Of imported wood 58% was pulpwood, a fair quarter chips and 2% logs. The remaining 14% consisted of fuelwood and by-products wood, such as wood pellets.
- In January-February wood imports totalled 0,89 million cubic meters. Of imported wood 31% originated from Latvia. From Estonia and Sweden both came 29% of imported wood.

Exports of the forest industries
- In January-February the exports value of forest industry products totalled EUR 1.94 billion and decreased from same period previous year in real terms by 11% (deflated using wholesale price index, 1949=100).
- At the same period the most important export product was paperboard with 27% share of forest industries export value. Second was pulp with 26% share. Paper covered a fair fifth of exports income. The share of sawn goods was 13%.
