Foreign trade in fish, 12/2023 (preliminary)

In December 2023, the value of fish and fish products imported into Finland was around EUR 43,9 million, or about six million kilos. Of these imports, about 3,3 million kilos of fresh whole salmon were imported, of which 58% transited on to Europe, leaving 1.4 million kilos in the country.

Fish and fish products were exported for 22,8 million euros, amounting to 7.6 million kilos. Fresh whole salmon in transit accounted for 1.9 million kilos of exports.

  • The value of imports fell by 18% compared to December of the previous year. The volume of imports fell by 19%. Of the fish imported, 99% was food fish.
  • The value of exports fell by 4% compared to the previous December. The volume of exports increased by 4%. Of the fish exported, 97% was food fish.
