Foreign trade in fish, 1/2023 (preliminary)

Fish and fish products were imported to Finland in January 2023 worth just under 36 million euros, amounting to approximately five million kilos. There were two million kilos of imported fresh whole salmon, of which little more than half went on to Europe in transit, about 0.9 million kilos remained in the country.

Fish and fish products were exported for just under 15 million euros; amounting to 7.2 million kilos. Salmon passing through the country accounted for approximately 1.1 million kilos of exports.

  • The value of imports decreased by one percent and the volume of imports decreased by 17 percent compared to January of the previous year. 92 percent of the imported fish was food fish.
  • The value of exports decreased by 17 percent compared to the previous January. The volume of exports decreased by 24 percent. 87 percent of the exported fish was food fish.
