Breeding dairy cattle for resource efficiency and environmental sustainability

A++ Lehmä - Makera

The aim of this project is to establish genomic breeding values for feed efficiency in Nordic dairy cows, and to study the impacts of the improvement in feed efficiency on economics and environment. The project consists of four work packages in which the researchers on animal breeding and nutrition and environmental impacts are working together. The research group is co-operating with the University of Helsinki and internal research partners and has close collaboration with dairy cattle industry stakeholders to ensure that research results will be implemented by the dairy cattle breeding industry to realize the benefits.
