Foreign trade in roundwood and forest industry products, 7/2022 (preliminary)

The exports value of forest industries was EUR 1.31 billion in July (deflated using wholesale price index) and decreased in real terms by 5% compared to July previous year. In July wood imports totalled 0.36 million cubic meters and decreased by 66% compared to the same month previous year.

  • In January-July, wood imports totalled 3.07 million cubic meters and decreased by 60% from same period previous year. Of imported wood half was pulpwood, third chips and 2% logs. Compared to the same period previous year the imports of pulpwood decreased by 64%. The imports of chips decreased by 60% and logs 69%. 
  • Of imported wood in January-July 49% originated from Russia, 22% from Estonia and 15% from Latvia.
  • In January-July the exports value of forest industry products totalled in real terms EUR 8.57 billion and decreased from previous year by 7%
  • At the same time the exports value of wood-products industries was EUR 2.77 billion and increased by 9% in real terms compared to previous year. The exports value of sawn goods increased by 5% and volume decreased by 6%. For plywood the exports value increased by 4% and volume decreased by 5%.
  • The real exports value of pulp and paper industries was EUR 5.80 billion and decreased by 13% compared to previous year. At the same time the exports value of bleached sulphate pulp decreased by 15% and volume decreased by 19%. The exports value of magazine paper decreased by 22% and volume by 35%. For fine paper the exports value decreased by 48% and volume decreased 58%. The exports value of paperboard increased by 7% and volume 3%.

 

Figures corrected in table Imports and exports by month and country (January-June). The correction applies to the item "Other products" for those countries that do not have foreign trade in forest sector products with Finland.
