Foreign trade of agricultural products and foodstuffs 2022 (preliminary)

In 2022, the value of imports of agricultural products and foodstuffs was around EUR 6.8 billion, an increase of around 23% compared to the previous year. The value of exports was around €2.2 billion, 22% more than in 2021.

  • The main import product groups were processed food (24%), beverages, confectionery and tobacco (22%) and fruit, berries and vegetables (10%). The main product groups for exports were dairy and dairy products (22%), processed food (18%) and beverages, confectionery and tobacco (19%).
  • Finland's main trading partners in terms of import value were the Netherlands, Germany and Sweden. Dutch imports of agricultural products and foodstuffs amounted to around €1.2 billion, with the largest imports of various waste oils and fats, and horticultural plants and their propagating material.
  • Total imports from Germany amounted to about EUR 786 million, mostly bakery products, animal feed and cheese. Sweden imported a total of €673 million, including confectionery, chocolate, bakery products and processed foodstuffs.
  • The main export countries were Sweden, Estonia and China. Of these top export countries, Sweden was the largest exporter by value, with a total of EUR 0.44 billion, mainly confectionery, chocolate, bakery products, yoghurt and butter.
  • Exports to Estonia amounted to around €192 million and included alcoholic beverages, fish and fish products, bakery products and confectionery. 169 million worth of agricultural products and foodstuffs were exported to China, mainly milk and whey powders and pork. The value of Chinese exports rose by around 15% year-on-year.
