Foreign trade in agri-food products 2023

The value of imports of agricultural products and foodstuffs was around EUR 6.9 billion and the value of exports around EUR 2.2 billion in 2023, down by around 5% and 6% respectively from 2022.

  • The main product groups of imports in terms of value were processed food (27.4%), beverages and confectionery (12.5%), fats and oils (8.8%) and fish and fish products (8.0%). The main product groups for exports were dairy products (20.4%), processed food (19.8%), fish and fish products (11.5%) and beverages and confectionery (10.3%).
  • Finland's main trading partners in terms of import value were the Netherlands, Germany, Sweden and Norway. The Netherlands imported around EUR 1.2 billion worth of agricultural products and foodstuffs, mostly waste oils and fats, processed foodstuffs, horticultural plants and their propagating material.
  • The main export countries were Sweden, Estonia, Germany and the Netherlands. Around EUR 0.5 billion of agricultural and food products were exported to Sweden, mainly processed food, dairy and dairy products, beverages and confectionery.
  • EU countries accounted for around 78% of the value of agricultural and food imports and 74% of the value of exports.
