Science camp school 2022 pilot

Science camp school: Permission to get excited about science!

This fall 2022, Vesanto high school students will be able to study the behavior of animals using scientific methods. This is a Science Camp organized by Maaseutuammattiin ry, Savonia University of Applied Sciences and Natural Resources Center Finland (Luke) at Luke's Maaninka research unit.

The welfare of production animals raises discussion from farmers to consumers. Nowadays, you can find, for example, welfare-certified milk on store shelves, but what does the welfare of farm animals actually mean? Diving into the fields of research starts with online studies and continues at the pastures where cows are grazing. In the exercise work the behavior of grazing dairy cows is measured. It is hoped that the science camp model will spread to other high schools and also to fields other than science. Another pilot is planned for spring 2023, where the Kuopio Lyseo high school will make nutrient leaching study.

The science camp school is being piloted in Luke Maaninka as part of Maaseutuammattiin ry's "Bio economy opportunities and creative entrepreneurship" project, which is financed by the Olvi foundation.
