Roboverstas - Autonomous Machinery and Data Collection Systems in Food Production Environments

Research and development services
roboverstaan kaksi robottia

Our robotic prototypes, drones, and instrumented machinery provide a framework for versatile research and testing of technology. The operations are designed so that individual and potentially stand-alone technological innovations can be piloted and further developed within a food production environment.

Benefits for the Customer

At the Roboverstas, the feasibility of technology innovations can be explored and studied in agriculture, horticulture, and greenhouse production across Finland. The workshop allows for the testing of stand-alone solutions within production systems. Technological innovations may relate to new measurement data or technologies, or to physical work methods and their interactions.

Services

The services of the Roboverstas are completely tailored to the customer's needs. Examples of our services include:

  • Robotic solutions for enhancing cultivation
  • Field condition mapping using new imaging methods
  • Task management for autonomous field machinery
  • Precision agriculture tasks and reporting
  • Disruptive methods in food production
  • Production of cultivation data and specialized measurements for geographic data analyses
  • Integration of geographic data with field automation

We conduct research and development projects in collaboration with domestic and international universities, research institutes, and companies. We can also carry out commissioned research and consulting tailored to customer needs.

Research in Robotic Solutions

The equipment at the Roboverstas enables diverse research in agricultural robotics. Tractor implements, agricultural robots, and drone systems operate seamlessly together, allowing research to be unbound from any single solution perspective. Additionally, there is a connection to the data produced by basic cultivation, cultivation planning software, and Data Space solutions.

Examples of Research Projects

  • A silage windrow robot as part of the grass harvesting chain
  • Prototype of an open-field strawberry picking robot on a conventional strawberry production farm
  • UVC irradiation robot for strawberry tunnel cultivation
  • Precision agriculture planning and fertilization using drones
