Crop Production Statistics and the quality of the grain harvest 2012

Published 5.6.2015
  • The total grain harvest in 2012 was 3.7 billion kilograms, which nearly equals that of 2011. The bread grain harvest decreased by about 10 per cent, and the harvest of feed grain increased by about 4 per cent.
  • The area used for turnip rape cultivation decreased by one-third from the previous year, and about 20 per cent of the cultivation area was destroyed. The total production of turnip rape decreased from about 90 million kilograms to 50 million kilograms. The total production of rape decreased from about 25 million kilograms to 24 million kilograms.
  • The potato harvest decreased by about 30 per cent due to a smaller cultivation area, extensive crop damage and poor yields per hectare. The total harvest – about 489 million kilograms – was one of the smallest in the history of the harvest statistics.
  • Total pea production declined by more than 20 per cent from the previous year, to about 9.5 million kilograms. The total production of horse bean increased by more than 10 per cent to 22 million kilograms.
  • The harvest area and total harvest of storage feed were on the previous year’s levels. The harvest of pre-dried storage feed increased slightly, but that of fresh-stored storage feed decreased by 7 per cent. The production of dry hay decreased from 2011 as well.
  • The quality of the grain harvest: good quality in spite of a cool and rainy growing season
