  • In 2021, a total of 65,4 million cubic metres of roundwood were harvested for use by the forest industries. This removal volume was 7.0 million cubic metres, or 12%, higher than in the previous year. Total roundwood removals were 4% higher than the average volume during the previous five-year period.
  • Sawlogs accounted for 30.3 and pulpwood for 35.1 million cubic metres of total roundwood removals. The felling volume of sawlogs increased by 22% from the previous year, and that of pulpwood by 5%. Sawlogs removals were 14% higher and pulp 4% lower than the average volume during the previous five-year period.
  • Most harvested tree species were pine 28.9 and spruce 26.4. Hardwood was removed 10.1 million cubic metres.
  • Of the different wood assortments, the felling volumes of spruce logs was 16.3 million cubic metres. For the first time the felling volume of pine pulp was less than spruce logs. Pine pulp removals was 16.0 million cubic metres.
  • The majority (83%) of roundwood removals came from non-industrial private forests, totalling 54.3 million cubic metres, up by 15% from the previous year. Combined roundwood removals by forestry companies’ own forests and state-owned forests increased by 1% to 11.1 million cubic metres.
  • A total of 6.2 million cubic metres of energy wood were harvested. Of this amount, delimbed stems and whole trees accounted for 3.6 million cubic metres. The total volume of stumps and logging residues was 2.6 million cubic metres.
