Trade of energywood, 3rd quarter 2021

  • In the third quarter of 2021, almost three fifths of the wood purchased as raw material for forest chips was pruned stems. The average price paid for it was EUR 5.0 per cubic metre in standing sales and EUR 26.9 in delivery sales. These prices were the same as under the previous quarter.
  • Nearly two fifths of the energywood trade were logging residues. The average price paid for logging residues was EUR 4.0 per cubic metre in standing sales and EUR 16.9 in delivery sales. The price decreased by 25 per cent from the previous quarter in standing sales and by nine per cent in delivery sales.
  • In total, 0.9 million cubic metres of energywood was included in the statistics during the third quarter of 2021. It was 45 per cent more than one year before and 36 per cent more than the average for the previous three years.
  • During January–September, 3.3 million cubic metres of energywood was recorded in statistics. Trade rose by 52 per cent year-on-year and was 42 per cent higher than the average for the previous three years. Compared to the previous three years, the trade in pruned stems increased by 52 per cent and the trade in logging residues by 44 per cent.

The recorded prices are based on prices entered in wood trade agreements. Any other increments and services related to wood trade are not included in the statistics. The prices do not include government subsidies.

The information is not rounded up to correspond to the total non-industrial private wood trade in Finland. This means that the published wood volumes represent only just over half of the energywood purchased from non-industrial private forests.
