Published 11.8.2021
  • In the second quarter of 2021, 48 per cent of the wood purchased as raw material for forest chips was logging residues. The average price paid for it was EUR 5.4 per cubic metre in standing sales and EUR 18.6 in delivery sales. In standing sales, the price increased by 18 per cent and in delivery sales it was up by 20 per cent compared to the previous quarter.
  • Portion of pruned stems was almost as large. The average price paid for pruned stems was EUR 4.9 per cubic metre in standing sales and EUR 26.9 in delivery sales. The price decreased by two per cent from the previous quarter in standing sales and by four per cent in delivery sales.
  • More than 1.6 million cubic metres of energywood was included in the statistics in the second quarter. This was the largest amount of energywood ever recorded in statistics during one quarter. Information is available since the beginning of 2015.
  • In the second quarter of 2021, standing sales accounted for 87 per cent of the total volume. The most common energywood species varied according to the trade method. In standing sales logging residues made up 52 and pruned stemwood accounted for 44 per cent. In delivery sales three-fifths of energywood was pruned stems and one-fifth was logging residues.

Data of logging residues and total energywood in standing sales (2020/1 – 2020/3) has been revised February 11, 2021.

The recorded prices are based on prices entered in wood trade agreements. Any other increments and services related to wood trade are not included in the statistics. The prices do not include government subsidies.

The information is not rounded up to correspond to the total non-industrial private wood trade in Finland. This means that the published wood volumes represent only just over half of the energywood purchased from non-industrial private forests.
