Cereal purchases, usage and stocks in trade and industry

These statistics have been redesigned.

  • The new statistics replace the former cereal enterprise statistics.
  • Cereal purchases from farms and industrial cereal usage will now be published four times a year.
  • Cereal stocks held by trade and industry will now be published twice a year.

Statistics for early 2009

  • During the first three quarters of 2009, barley was the top cereal bought directly from farms – about 780 million kilos, of which 23% was malting barley.
  • About 200 million kilos of wheat and about 68 million kilos of rye were used in food production during the first three quarters of 2009. About 170 million kilos of barley and about 100 million kilos of oats were used as animal feed.
  • At the end of June, trade and industry stocks of barley stood at just over 200 million kilos, wheat at about 120 million kilos, oats at about 110 million kilos, rye at 30 million kilos, and turnip rape and oilseed rape at just over 30 million kilos.
