Description
Quarterly statistics on the volumes of cereals, turnip rape and oilseed rape purchased directly from farmers and the volumes used by the cereal industry. Biannual statistics on the stocks of cereals, turnip rape and oilseed rape held by enterprises that buy and use cereals.
Content
The statistics contain data on the volumes of cereals purchased from farms. This information is obtained directly from the purchasers – trade, industry and the Agency for Rural Affairs’ Intervention Unit. The statistics contain quarterly purchase volumes for bread wheat, feed wheat, rye, malting barley, feed and other barley, oats, turnip rape and oilseed rape in thousands of kilograms. Seed grain is not included in these statistics.
The quarterly volumes of wheat, rye, oats and barley used by industry is recorded in thousands of kilograms by usage: for food use, feed use other uses.
The statistics also present, in thousands of kilograms, the stocks of wheat, rye, barley, oats, turnip rape and oilseed rape held by trade and industry at the end of June and December. Cereal intervention stocks and seed grain are not included in these statistics.

Data collection and sources
A questionnaire is used to collect data from all cereal trade enterprises and all cereal-using enterprises that a) purchase cereals and/or turnip rape and oilseed rape directly from farmers, and/or b) use whole grain cereals, and/or c) have stocks of cereals and/or turnip rape and oilseed rape. These sources include the Agency for Rural Affairs’ Intervention Unit as well as mills, malting houses, feed plants and other cereal-using industries. Purchase and usage data is obtained on a quarterly basis, while information on stocks is collected twice a year.
Update frequency
The statistics are updated quarterly.
Preparation and publication schedule
Data is published on 10 February, 10 May, 10 August and 10 November.
Time series
The statistics were redesigned in 2009. Data for the former statistics is available from the 1970s onwards.
