Investments in silvicultural and forest improvement work were EUR 302 million in 2014.

Main points

  • In 2014, EUR 302 million was spent on silvicultural and forest improvement work, and investments in these activities were, in real terms, the same as in 2013.
  • EUR 216 million was spent on forests in non-industrial private ownership (in real terms, 1% less than the year before), EUR 34 (+4 %) on forests owned by forest industries, and EUR 52 million (+3%) on state-owned forests.
  • State support for silvicultural and forest improvement work in forests in non-industrial private ownership amounted to EUR 59 million. The state also subsidized the harvesting of energy wood in privately owned forests by EUR 10 million.
  • The investments in tending of seedling stands, in fertilisation for growth, and in ditch network maintenance increased from the previous year. The investments in forest roads decreased from EUR 46 million to EUR 39 million.
  • The real unit costs of the main work types increased from the previous year. The increase was remarkable in forest improvement work. The unit cost of road construction increased by over one third, and the unit cost of basic improvement of roads by almost one fifth.
